A teacher responds"},"content":{"rendered":"<h6><a href=\"http:\/\/innovativelearningdesigns.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/iStock_000010273150XSmall.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-thumbnail wp-image-152\" title=\"Strategy, innovation and planning crossword\" src=\"http:\/\/innovativelearningdesigns.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/iStock_000010273150XSmall-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/innovativelearningdesigns.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/iStock_000010273150XSmall-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/innovativelearningdesigns.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/iStock_000010273150XSmall-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/innovativelearningdesigns.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/iStock_000010273150XSmall.jpg 347w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><\/h6>\n<div><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&#8220;Yes, we can strategize.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0It is an uphill battle as it does require going against the status quo (or at least much of the current status quo).<\/div>\n<div>I believe we are moving in that direction and there are two forces that are allowing this move.<\/div>\n<div>1.\u00a0\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">We are modelling permission to fail.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0Exploring next practices won&#8217;t land on the promising practice the first time.\u00a0\u00a0One of my best teaching examples of this was working with a project having students create persuasive videos.\u00a0\u00a0They did all the planning, scripting, and recording to a video camera.\u00a0\u00a0The last stage was to turn it into a newscast with iMovie.\u00a0\u00a0The computers were not cooperating so we tried for 2 blocks and then abandoned the plan.\u00a0\u00a0While they were disappointed, all of the learning goals had already been met.<\/div>\n<div>2.\u00a0\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Removing hurdles and empowering innovation<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0The directions we have moved in the District have a strong flavour of removing hurdles.\u00a0\u00a0At the same time, we are providing technology opportunities to explore new technology.\u00a0\u00a0We have provided loaner equipment for several years.\u00a0\u00a0My experience is that once schools dig in and see personally the potential in the classroom, it is just a matter of getting the resources that live in the school to allow further innovation.\u00a0\u00a0One of the best moves from the Maine 1 to 1 laptop project was to provide teachers the laptops 1 year before the students.\u00a0\u00a0In Surrey we have used a similar model by providing the iPads to teachers 4 months before schools.<\/div>\n<div>Can we strategize innovation? Yes.<\/div>\n<div>Are we strategizing innovation? Yes.<\/div>\n<div>Does strategizing require continuous energy to keep it in motion? Yes.<\/div>\n<div>Is the work worth it? Yes.<\/div>\n<div>Has a portion of the status quo moved?
