{"id":192,"date":"2011-11-07T15:49:08","date_gmt":"2011-11-07T23:49:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/innovativelearningdesigns.ca\/?p=192"},"modified":"2011-11-07T15:49:08","modified_gmt":"2011-11-07T23:49:08","slug":"ramping-up-innovation-leading-learning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/innovativelearningdesigns.ca\/?p=192","title":{"rendered":"Ramping up innovation: Leading Learning"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The culture of YES!\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/cultureofyes.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">Chris Kennedy\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0turn of phrase resonates with innovative leaders.\u00a0 He has, in a simple way uttered words that override the formal part of the school organization.\u00a0 The word YES opens doors and minds and feels like an exhilarating call from the informal side of the organization where innovative ideas are sparked\u2014this energy is seductive.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">YES attracts, multiplies and creates a critical following and it is the work of the <a href=\"http:\/\/innovativelearningdesigns.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/iStock_000015913484XSmall.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-169\" title=\"iStock_000015913484XSmall\" src=\"http:\/\/innovativelearningdesigns.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/iStock_000015913484XSmall-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>leader to navigate, not only the spirit of the new direction but to keep the\u00a0\u201cspark\u201d of the idea ignited carefully leading through the dangerous waters of the formal system.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The formal system does not intend to dampen the spark but in reality is designed with checks, balances, regulation, and particularly in education, is built to withstand a critical and unfriendly public.<\/p>\n<p>NO is louder than the YES. The noise is deafening, wearing and can numb best intentions. In addition the formal system has its gatekeepers whom lurk in doorways. Once again it is not their intention to stop innovation but they have learned it is safer to abide by the rules. It is our relationship with the gatekeepers that exhaust our efforts.<\/p>\n<p>What are our answers?\u00a0 How can leaders sustain the energy to continue to push upstream?\u00a0 Could we also find a champion like a Chris Kennedy who can help us find a simple and magical turn of phrase and lead us through the dangerous waters while keeping the spark alive!\u00a0 Tall order!\u00a0 Are you our champion?<\/p>\n<address><em>Thank you to Dr. Donna VanSant for contributing this guest post.
